Perinatal psychology

Perinatal psychology

When motherhood or paternity comes close, it also matters to care for your mental health.

A space for this stage

The search for pregnancy, pregnancy, birth and postpartum can transform your life. Along with illusion, fear, uncertainty, sadness, anxiety, guilt or difficulties in the relationship may also appear.

Perinatal psychology accompanies emotional health from the idea of having a baby: search, fertility treatments, pregnancy, birth, postpartum and first moments of rearing. No diagnosis is needed to request support.

How can we help?

  • Difficulties in achieving pregnancy and assisted reproduction processes.
  • Fears, anxiety, guilt and worries during pregnancy or postpartum.
  • Doubts about the desire for motherhood or fatherhood and contradictory emotions.
  • Fear of childbirth, difficult birth experiences and psychological preparation for birth.
  • Gestational or perinatal losses and pregnancy interruptions.
  • Self-demand, mental overload, matrescence and changes in identity.
  • Bond with the baby, breastfeeding, weaning, rearing and family adaptation.
  • Changes in relationships and previous experiences that are reactivated at this stage.

How we work

Every experience of pregnancy, parenthood and family life is different. In the first sessions we take time to understand your situation and agree on goals with you.

We work with listening, understanding and evidence-based psychological tools. The accompaniment can be individual or, if appropriate, involve the couple.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I have to have depression or anxiety to come?

No. You can come if this stage goes beyond you, fear appears or you need to talk about what you're living without feeling judged.

  • Can I come if I'm not pregnant yet?

Yes. We also accompany the desire for maternity, the search for pregnancy, fertility treatments and their uncertainty.

  • I love my baby, but I don't enjoy as I thought I would. Is that normal?

They can coexist with love, tiredness, sadness and a feeling of being overwhelmed. In therapy we explore what is happening and if you need specific care.

  • Do you work with the couple as well?

That's right. Depending on the situation, accompaniment can be individual, with the couple or combine both spaces.

  • I have had a gestational or perinatal loss. Can therapy help me?

We can accompany you through the grief, at your own pace, and explore how to face significant dates, a new search or the fear of another loss.
